We create income generation opportunities for farmers and rural women of Alaknanda Valley and enable them to have direct cash earning through income generation activities at Common facility centre located in Kaleshwar, District Chamoli  of Uttarakhand.

About Valley

Alaknanda valley of Chamoli District in Uttarakhand is one of the most backward areas in India. Farmers are economically dependent on agriculture and do not have alternate source of income, which can bring cash to them.  Low economic status was the root cause of farmer’s poor status. Tough geographical conditions of the hill region increase the problems of farmers. Therefore there was an income generation opportunities created for farmers and rural women of the valley which enabled them to have direct cash earning through income generation activities at Common facility centre at Kaleshwar.

HARC Alaknanda Krishi Vyawsaya Bahuddeshiya Swayyat Sahkarita is supported by Himalayan Action Research Centre (HARC), an autonomous voluntary development organization, which aims to help the mountain people by working for their holistic, integrated and sustainable development based on the indigenous knowledge, cultural values, and local resources. It was established in 1988.

HARC, has been serving the cause of people-centered, people-managed, people-controlled and people-owned development process. It believes that sustainable development and good governance can be ensured only through active and effective involvement of the local community irrespective of caste, class or gender. It strives for empowering the people in ways such that they can take their own decisions regarding their progress and build a stable society that is free of social, economic and gender inequity.

HARC has a special focus on women and other marginalized section of the society which makes a significant contribution to the socio-economic and cultural development of their family, community and nation and yet do not get their due.
